E.Meyer, 'grand bi', 1874

This wonderful early Meyer is on show in the Velorama museum. I said it before and I will say it again: Meyer bicycles are like sculptures. All details are right, they are the Citroën DS of the 19th century. They are a very early form of French 'design'.

In 1874, this was a state of the art bicycle, with the curvy spring, the plain bearings and oilers (just like the boneshaker had).  Round hollow backbone, rear wheel brake, this bicycle has it all.
Front and rear hub can be opened from the side to change spokes, which was a typical Meyer feature.
